We are looking for intermediate Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineers that will become an integral part of our Cross-Functional engineering teams located in Fort McMurray. In these roles, you will provide technical support to operations to maintain safe and environmentally responsible production. You will identify strategic and cost-effective initiatives to improve safety, quality and production of the assigned assets and provide technical expertise in the development of scoping studies, unit performance plans, and complex troubleshooting.

These roles have wide scope, using a range of technical skills to optimize plant operations, identify asset performance and utilization opportunities, and provide required field level technical support during plant maintenance and turnarounds. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic team environment and will interact with both technical and operations staff.

We are looking for Process Support and Contact Engineering roles in the following areas:

  • Extraction
  • Utilities
  • Upgrading
  • Insitu

Key Accountabilities:

  • Daily monitoring of process units and provide recommendations for process set point changes to maintain product quality specifications
  • Develop and sustain technical operating envelopes used for daily process and equipment monitoring
  • Steward production, recovery, yield, operating risks, and restrictions
  • Conduct field tours, observations and vessel inspections of various equipment as needed
  • Ensure process designs minimize hazards, achieve the desired intent, minimize costs, and adhere to relevant internal and external industry standards
  • Facilitate risk assessments, participate in HAZOP’s
  • Provide turnaround and maintenance support including process inspections, process studies and evaluations from inspection findings and pre-startup safety reviews
  • Independently plan and conduct projects to improve efficiency; determine engineering scopes and test plans as required
  • Mentor junior engineers and support them in their development

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in chemical or mineral process engineering
  • Seeking intermediate individuals with 5+ years experience; preferably in oil sands processing or Upgrading / Utilities technologies
  • Strong computer skills are required, experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs is essential
  • Registered or are immediately eligible for professional membership with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to plan and organize work; take initiative to ensure that projects and tasks are completed on time and correctly

Location and other Key Details:

  • There are a number of roles across our operations that are located in Fort McMurray, AB
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer housing assistance to eligible individuals
