Job Description

The Process and Maintenance Operator is responsible for performing the activities required to operate and maintain the plant. This includes a variety of tasks in support of both the operation and the maintenance team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operate as part of a team to achieve common goals.
  • Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through the SCADA system, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned area.
  • Monitors and records operating conditions observations and data in a daily shift log.
  • Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process control units or alter unit processes. Samples sludge and solid streams for determination of solids balancing.
  • Monitors process chemical supplies daily and places or adjusts chemical orders to insure continued plant operations.
  • Ensures conformance to process specifications. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to their Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Manager takes corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Performs minor maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments as required;
  • Support the maintenance technician in more complex maintenance activitiesPerforms shift routines, preventative maintenance and maintenance related work as assigned
  • Always operates in conformity with Company Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

    • Graduate with a minimum post-secondary education.
    • Graduate from a Heavy Equipment Operator Program – Training in learning to maintain and proper use of heavy equipment, would be an asset
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related position and environment preferred
    • Forklift license preferred, heavy equipment operator license is an asset.
    • Must have a have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing (operational, process, safety and quality Instructions).
    • Ability to perform basic math.
    • Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand and power tools preferred. Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
    • Reading text, Document use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral communication, attention to detail. Good use of the English language. Deadline oriented. Work well with others. Good hand eye coordination. Repetitive motions required. Rotating through-out the facility as required.
    • Reliable and dependable on start and finish times as it impacts the operations.

    • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
      • Fast-paced environment, Repetitive tasks, physically demanding, and attention to detail.
    • Work Site Environment:
      • Can get dusty, recycling odour.
    • Transportation/Travel Information:
      • Own transportation
    • Shifts (2): Monday – Friday; 6:00 AM- 2:30 PM & 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM, + Overtime; two weeks days then switch to two weeks afternoons.
    • Permanent position offered on a full-time basis.
