Additional Job Description:

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) manages hospitalized patients with coordination and clinical skills. The APP develops comprehensive care plans, reviews and directs care, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and coordinates ambulatory management and discharge planning. The APP also participates in educating residents and medical/nursing students.

Provide healthcare services in accordance with state law and professional licensing requirements.
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner:
  • Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by a recognized APRN Certification Center.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification; additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion.
Experience:
  • Acute care or hospitalist experience preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACNP or AGACNP preferred; FNPs will also be considered.
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant program.
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification; additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion.
Experience:
  • Acute care or hospitalist experience preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters level education as Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage comprehensive inpatient care, perform rounds, assessments, diagnostics, coordinate discharges, and develop individualized care plans. Demonstrate expertise across age groups, recognize emergencies, and facilitate follow-up care. Engage in teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives. Document all care accurately and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Participate in committee work and community programs. Other duties may be assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Work involves physical strength and stamina, including lifting and moving patients and equipment over 40 pounds.

Working Environment:

Work includes close collaboration with staff, irregular hours, and exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and other hazards.
