Job description

Our client is a private investment firm that invests in operating businesses and is backed by a high net worth family. The firm’s strong reputation and network, coupled with an perpetual investment vehicle, provide a significant edge in sourcing and closing deals.

The team’s current focus is on making control investments in business services companies globally that generate $25M-$125M of EBITDA. The team has been very active and has made five investments over the last three years. Their global portfolio AUM has reached C$1.5 billion. They are currently focused on control investments in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) space and are also actively evaluating opportunities in other service-based, asset-light businesses with strong cash flow profiles.

Backed primarily by the family and with a track record of attracting capital from sophisticated institutional investors, the firm is well-positioned for continued growth.

The Role

  • Our client is looking to hire an Associate, Private Equity. The successful candidate will be part of a team reporting to the Director, Private Equity and will play a key role in reviewing new investment opportunities and overseeing current holdings. This is a great opportunity to work with a small but nimble and highly effective team and to learn from renowned investors.

Responsibilities

  • Review and support new investments including:
  • Research and evaluate investment opportunities, including financial modeling, industry research, competitive analysis, and financial statement analysis
  • Articulate the merits and risks of potential investments, including strategic rationale, financial returns, and risk factors.
  • Coordinate and participate with third party advisors in due diligence processes, including legal, financial, and operational assessments.
  • Support execution process of transactions and post-investment integration of new investments.
  • Asset Management
  • Oversee existing investments and holdings.
  • Monitor the performance of portfolio companies, including financial results, operational metrics, and strategic initiatives.
  • Work closely with portfolio company management teams to drive value creation, including identifying growth opportunities, operational improvements, and exit strategies.
  • Prepare financial analyses, forecasts, and budgets supporting cash requirements for portfolio companies
  • Execute ad hoc initiatives/special projects as required

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business or commerce plus a minimum of four (4) years post-grad experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in investment banking, corporate finance or private equity
  • An ability to work with C‐level decision makers and clients
  • Comfortable working in a less structured yet highly professional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong modeling, analytical (including valuation, investment return, multiple scenarios, etc.), and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with exposure to building and maintaining relationships both internally and externally
