Job summary

The University of Ottawa is seeking a Specialist, Privacy to join the Access to Information and Privacy Office on a full‑time basis at the Main Campus in Ottawa. The role focuses on applied privacy analysis, assessment, and coordination across initiatives, ensuring lawful collection, use, retention, and protection of personal information.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of privacy, information security, and/or risk management experience.
• Bilingualism - French and English (spoken and written).
• Privacy-related certification preferred (e.g., CIPP/C, CIPM).
• Knowledge of FIPPA and privacy legislation.
• Knowledge of University policies on information and privacy.

Responsibilities

• Provides applied privacy advice to faculties and administrative units to support informed decision‑making and reduce non‑compliance risk.
• Conducts Privacy Impact Assessments for new or modified initiatives and documents privacy risks.
• Develops and maintains privacy policies, standards, and guidance materials.
• Collaborates with IT, procurement, legal, and researchers to embed privacy requirements across systems and projects.
• Coordinates privacy incidents, complaints, and investigations with appropriate escalation.
• Prepares correspondence and reports on privacy issues for internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare annual statistics on privacy breaches for the Ontario regulator and other required reports.
• Assists in developing training materials to promote privacy awareness.
• Supports special projects and access to information requests as needed.
