Overview

The Privacy and Compliance Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital's Privacy and Compliance programs. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of compliance and privacy, providing expert advice on privacy matters, and addressing privacy-related issues. The coordinator promotes a culture of compliance and privacy, advises on and resolves privacy issues, responds to inquiries, conducts risk assessments, and performs audits, investigations, and incident response activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to support and enhance the hospital's privacy program, building on its reputation for privacy excellence in an increasingly electronic environment. The role involves supporting awareness, adherence to privacy standards, policies, and best practices. The position reports to the Information, Privacy and Compliance Officer and is part of the Quality, Patient Safety, Risk, Privacy and Operational Excellence department.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Providing privacy advisory, risk assessment, and mitigation services to staff through interpretation of policies, requirements, and legislation.
  2. Supporting the expansion of the Compliance Program.
  3. Collaborating on and performing regular privacy audits.
  4. Investigating privacy incidents and complaints, coordinating incident response, and recommending corrective actions.
  5. Supporting privacy training, education, awareness, and communications.
  6. Reviewing information management systems for compliance with policies, legislation, and data security standards.
  7. Reviewing data sharing agreements with Research, Legal, etc.
  8. Monitoring privacy trends internally and externally.
  9. Supporting policy updates and engagement with relevant committees and groups.
  10. Supporting ongoing privacy education programs and other activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Industry Administration, or equivalent preferred.
  2. Undergraduate degree in related disciplines or equivalent experience.
  3. Knowledge of Ontario privacy legislation (e.g., PHIPA, FIPPA).
  4. Minimum two years’ experience in a healthcare privacy role preferred.
  5. Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
  7. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate diplomacy.
  8. IT knowledge related to privacy, and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  9. IAPP privacy certification or similar is an asset.
  10. Project management experience and familiarity with privacy assessment tools are assets.
  11. Experience in educational program creation and delivery preferred.
  12. Good work and attendance record required.
