Job description

Overview

Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning (A&P) division is looking for an experienced Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designer to join our Hardware Engineering team. The PCB team is comprised of designers in Calgary who work to support a wide variety of hardware projects. As a member of the PCB team the PCB Designer will be responsible for working with Hardware Designers/Engineers and to drive the development of complex multi-disciplinary mixed signal, high-density high speed digital and RF printed circuits, with feature rich design constraints, assuring compliance with environmental and regulatory specifications (eg. FCC Part-15) and design for cost and manufacturability.

The location: Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This is a hybrid position based in Calgary, AB.

Responsibilities

As a Printed Circuit Board Designer, responsibilities include:

  • Interpret and interact with the schematic circuit and formulate a strategy for the placement and optimal circuit routing that follows the acceptability guidelines and principles of Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, and Fabrication.
  • Creating engineering manufacturing drawings and documentation, data output files to support the fabrication of printed circuit boards, and data interchange files.
  • Support maintenance of all products via the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process and sustaining activities related to feedback from deployed units in the field and manufacturing metrics.
  • Track task progress to a schedule and deliver key project objectives in a timely fashion.
  • Create a project work estimate based on design complexity and transform tasks into a managed scheduled.
  • Run analysis tools, Valor NPI for DFM/DFA, Signal Integrity and crosstalk.
  • Interpret device manufacturer datasheets to create a symbolic representation of the component and physical footprint for a PCB Library.
  • Independently make decisions, conduct process analysis for placement of components, stackup planning with impedance calculations and critical nets routing.
Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • 5-7 years experience with specific knowledge of multi-layer HDI (High Density Interconnect) via interconnect design methods, multi-layer sequential laminated stackup structures, technology drivers and physical characteristics of printed circuits.
  • Working knowledge of IPC (Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits) standards
  • Special knowledge of designing PCB layout for DDR3/4 memory bus, USB and Ethernet, High Speed Analog, RF, Low Noise Amplification, Differential signaling, impedance controlled routing, as well as knowledge of switching regulator design and power distribution network.

Key Success Factors:

  • Independent Self-starter
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
  • Highly organized
  • Attention to detail and adherence to processes
  • Readily shares information and ideas

Nice-to-Have:
