Principal Welding Quality Assurance and Non Destructive Examination Technologist (Permanent)

Location: Victoria, British Columbia, CA, V8Z 0B9

Onsite or Hybrid: Onsite

Expected Salary: $84,925 to $122,670

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, coordinate, and grow weld quality assurance and quality control capabilities as required, to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Review and accept contractor developed welding procedure specifications.
  • Review and accept contractor welder performance qualifications.
  • Review and accept contractor developed Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal and external organizations including Babcock Engineering & Corporate Quality Assurance, subcontracted weld engineers or weld companies in support of welding and NDE quality, process controls, and performance / procedure qualifications.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduated from a recognized institution with post-secondary education or accreditation as a Welding Technologist (or equivalent) or significant experience and exposure to welding and NDE activities in the marine sector.
  • Eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia as an Applied Science Technologist.
  • 10+ years experience with welding, weld inspection, structural engineering, or naval architecture.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and guidance to technologists.
  • Qualification as a welding inspector (CSA W178.2, CWI etc.).
  • Experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within shipbuilding / repair, pressure vessel / piping or similar heavy industrial environments.
  • Qualification as an NDE technician in any of the following disciplines, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, radiography, and or ultrasonic testing.
  • Experience, Trade qualifications and performance qualifications in welding to recognized welding codes & standards.
  • Eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
