Principal Scientist Dx CMC Radiochemistry

Your Impact

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Senior/Principal Scientist, CMC Radiochemistry with a strong background inradiolabeling processes and analytical testing methods for peptide/small molecule-based radiopharmaceuticalsto join our innovative CMC Radiochemistry group. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, includingR&D, regulatory, and external CDMO partners, to drive the development and delivery of novel radiolabeled diagnostic compounds for both pre-clinical and clinical applications. Reporting to the Director of Diagnostic Radiopharmaceutical Development, you will play a key role in shapingour radiopharmaceutical development program, enabling you to see the direct results of your contributions and grow alongside a passionate team. This role is based in ourVancouver officewith flexibility for hybrid work.

How You'll Contribute

  • Lead radiochemistry experiments to develop robust radiolabeling processes and clinical formulations that meet target product profiles for diagnostic applications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define project goals and timelines, while supervising junior radiochemists and driving process improvements.
  • Develop quality control procedures, analytical methods, and specifications for radiopharmaceutical drug products, in coordination with analytical chemists and external partners (CROs, CDMOs).
  • Design and optimize manual and automated radiolabeling processes, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for process or synthesis failures, troubleshoot issues, and enhance product development knowledge.
  • Author and review technical documents (SOPs, reports, test methods, regulatory documents), ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and industry standards.

The Skills you Bring

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in radiopharmaceutical process development, formulation development, production, manufacturing, or tech transfer.
  • Hands-on experience using diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes (e.g., Ga-68, F-18, Cu-64 and In-111) is a plus.
  • Expertise in developing automated radiolabeling processes, including for GMP production or radiolabeled drug products.
  • Proficient in analytical methods like HPLC, radio-HPLC, radio-TLC, and quality control for radiopharmaceutical production.
  • Strong project leadership skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience working in managing cross-functional projects with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Effective communicator with experience collaborating cross-functionally across teams such as QA, regulatory affairs, R&D, analytical, and operations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for radiopharmaceutical development and production, along with experience in preparing CMC documentation.
