Job Summary:
The Principal, Sales Tax is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing tax services within their Practice area.
Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results:
People:
- Creates a positive team experience.
- Delivers and supervises consulting and recovery work delegated to managers and staff.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for the Practice area throughout the Firm and assigned jurisdictions/geographical areas.
- Works within the Practice to develop new tax planning ideas to deliver to clients.
- Works with the sales tax Principal team to develop and implement growth strategies and initiatives.
- Assists in the general operation and administration of the Practice.
Client:
- Develops new client relationships and works with Ryan's global management team to expand the Practice to other markets.
- Routinely makes presentations to prospects and clients.
- Assists clients with sales tax issues as required.
Value:
- Develops and executes tax consulting projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting and/or Finance.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) with more than eight years’ experience in sales tax.
- Has tax-related experience in industry and/or public accounting environment.
- Excellent technical sales tax skills, with a deep familiarity of tax laws, regulations, policies, and case law.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
- High level of self-motivation and ethical conduct.
- Good client relations and communication skills: pleasant, positive personality.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid passport.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly or indirectly supervises employees in the Practice and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws.
Work Environment:
- Standard indoor working environment.
- Occasional long periods of sitting while working at the computer.
- Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
- Independent travel requirement: 10 to 20%.
