Tetra Tech is adding a Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer to our growing Rock Engineering Team based in Vancouver, BC.

The salary range for this position is $191,000 to $230,000 per year. Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including education, relevant experience, skills, location, and certifications.

Your Role:

This role encompasses several key responsibilities aligned with our core values, supporting your career growth and the success of our rock engineering group:

  1. Provide technical leadership, guiding project teams through staged reviews and enhancing our technical capabilities.
  2. Identify and implement innovative methodologies to improve project delivery and provide cost-effective, sustainable solutions.
  3. Ensure high-quality deliverables, emphasizing technical excellence and good project management.
  4. Develop and lead training and professional development initiatives, mentoring staff and guiding their technical careers.
  5. Promote innovation, share knowledge internally and externally, publish technical papers, and encourage conference participation.
  6. Manage billable project work, overseeing project stages from inception to final delivery.
  7. Assist in business development by strategizing with clients and pursuing new opportunities.
  8. Adhere to internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  9. Maintain professional development and industry knowledge.
  10. Prioritize safety at all times, reporting incidents and concerns.
  11. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. is an asset.
  • 25+ years of mining or consulting engineering experience, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Proven technical leadership in open pit or underground mining.
  • Strong desire to foster a quality, innovative, and R&D-focused culture.
  • Mentorship experience to support staff development.
  • Extensive experience in designing and managing engineering studies for mining projects.
  • Excellent team and communication skills, with client management experience.
  • Experience in business development within consulting engineering.
  • Commitment to health and safety, with registration or eligibility as a professional engineer in BC.
  • Valid driver’s license.
