Overview

Microsoft Research (MSR), a leading industrial research laboratory, comprises over 1,000 computer scientists working across the United States, United Kingdom, China, India, Canada, and the Netherlands.

We are currently seeking Principal Researcher in the area of Systems and Networking located in Vancouver, British Columbia, with a keen interest in exploring advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven methods for systems, thereby expediting overall system innovation. This is an opportunity to drive an ambitious research agenda while collaborating with diverse teams to push for novel applications of those areas.

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct research on state-of-the-art AI-driven system methods and technologies to identify opportunities for system innovation and acceleration.
  2. Develop and implement new methodologies, techniques, and algorithms for improving the performance, efficiency, and scalability of AI-driven systems.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, data scientists, and product managers, to develop and deploy innovative AI-driven system solutions.
  4. Stay current with the latest trends, research, and developments in AI, machine learning, and system architecture.
  5. Evaluate the performance of AI-driven systems and provide recommendations for improvement and optimization.
  6. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other venues, and present results to stakeholders.
  7. Mentor and guide junior researchers and engineers.
  8. Collaborate with industry partners and academic institutions on joint research projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in relevant field AND 3+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in research related to systems, architecture, or artificial intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in relevant field AND 5+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or key contributor.
  • Participation in top conferences in relevant research domains.
  • Background in systems and networking, including experience with machine learning systems, databases, and networking technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of recent technical advancements such as Agent Systems, Vector Databases, and ML Systems.
  • A track record of research publications in AI-driven system innovation is a plus.

Role

Research Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $132,800 - CAD $247,200 per year. Find additional pay information here.
