About The Role

As a Principal Project Manager you will be accountable for delivery or engineering and manufacturing projects supporting our customers within the CANDU Nuclear industry. Typical projects will range from $100k to $5M in size. You will manage multiple technical projects, lead multi-disciplinary teams and drive project execution while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, cost and schedule, and development & maintenance of customer relationships.

You will report to the Senior Project Portfolio Manager and be located in Burlington, Kitchener or Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. You will have a Hybrid working arrangement of up to 3 days per week onsite.

Main Responsibilities

  • Accountability of project lifecycles from proposal through to implementation including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and close-out.
  • Determine methods and resources needed to achieve project goals and develop a detailed project execution plan covering all phases of the project. Balance and manage competing project constraints including scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources and risks.
  • Develop and maintain a project schedule (with support from a project scheduler) and resourcing needs identification, to be used to drive performance of the work.
  • Develop and implement recovery plans to bring delayed activities & deliverables back on track
  • Align stakeholder expectations to achieve overall acceptance of project objectives. Effectively communicate project interdependencies and requirements.
  • Maintain full accountability for the project financial performance. Monitor project spends ad KPIs and regularly update project forecast, addressing deviations immediately as they are identified.
  • Control the project scope by understanding the contract and SOW and monitoring project activities and customer requests against this. Document and communicate identified changes immediately with both customers and internal management.
  • Ensure regular communication with the customer and project stakeholders. Hold regular project meetings and provide regular project status reports. Be responsive with customer requests and ensure project challenges are escalated immediately.
  • Identify and manage project risks through development and maintenance of a project risk register.
  • Implement mitigation plans to identified risks and manage allocated risk budgets.
  • Maintain all documentation throughout the life of the project to ensure compliance to the contract and quality procedures
  • Seek opportunities to implement continuous improvements to enhance project performance. Document and share lessons learned and apply improvements to project planning and execution.
  • Travel to customer and other Westinghouse facility locations

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree – Engineering or Project Management or related
  • 5+ years of experience in Project Management (or equivalent experience in engineering, operations, sales within the Canadian Nuclear Industry)
  • PMP, or willing to obtain
  • Experience managing engineering, manufacturing and/or site execution projects for nuclear customers
  • Experience in leadership and management of cross-functional project teams
  • Experience with Primavera or MS Project
