Job description

Type of position : Regular

Your future role on our team

You will lead or participate in all phases of mining projects, from prefeasibility studies to commissioning, providing expertise and high-quality consulting services for our clients. You will be a key member of our multidisciplinary team, carrying out high-tech process simulations and determining the equipment, tools, and processes.

Additionally, you will manage operational activities supporting the department’s objectives on project delivery, growth, development, quality, and employee experience. As a Principal Engineer, you will participate in practice initiatives and foster a work environment where employees feel engaged and challenged.

  • Work with a team of skilled engineers, designers, and project support staff to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to BBA’s quality standards.
  • Manage cross-disciplinary teams to ensure cost-effective, safe, and timely project completion exceeding client expectations.
  • Review and approve process plant material balances, design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, specifications, and evaluations.
  • Prepare operating cost evaluations.
  • Liaise with clients on technical matters and present reports, publications, and presentations professionally.
  • Manage resource planning and assign work to team members.
  • Identify and schedule internal/external training opportunities for employees.
  • Lead performance management processes for team members.
  • Ensure adherence to BBA’s 10 Golden Rules for health & safety, embedding safety in all work activities.
  • Champion BBA values.

Training component (15% of time)

  • Plan and manage internal meetings and external stakeholder or subcontractor meetings.
  • Identify and schedule training opportunities.
  • Ensure effective information circulation within the team.
  • Mentor young professionals within the group.

Business Development component (5 to 10% of time)

  • Develop business relationships during project execution to promote repeat business.
  • Promote cross-service sales to existing clients.
  • Market BBA’s mining and metals services internally and externally.

Corporate Component (5 to 10% of time)

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies for the Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy Group.
  • Engage in innovation, new service development, and communication projects.
  • Support change management and corporate communication initiatives.

Certifications and job requirements overview

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Over 12 years of experience in gold, copper, green energy materials, or base metals operations and/or design.
  • Expertise in metallurgical test work, crushing, grinding, flotation, hydrometallurgy, water treatment, gravity separation, pressure oxidation, heap leaching, CIL/CIP, and electrowinning/refining.
  • Proven success in mining industry projects.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Enthusiasm for business development and growth.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and process simulation software (METSIM, JKSimMet, Bruno, SysCAD, OLI).
  • Experience in feasibility studies and NI 43-101 reports.
  • Excellent English communication skills; French/Spanish is an asset.
