About the “Right” Person for this Role

You’re someone who can open a door and keep it open—not with a sales pitch, but with credibility. You know how to start the right conversation, earn trust, and demonstrate value without overselling. Clients respond to your technical depth, your insight, and your ability to cut through complexity. You have a natural drive to win work and deliver meaningful impact. Your experience isn’t limited to the study or design phase—you’ve been in the field, seen how things come together during construction, and understand how decisions on paper translate to outcomes on site. That grounding gives you an edge in conversations and decision-making, because you’ve seen projects built and know what it takes to get them over the line.

We’re looking for a rare blend: a technically sharp process engineer or metallurgist who also thrives in client conversations and commercial decision-making. This is more than a delivery role—it’s for someone who instinctively understands what matters, who brings hands-on construction experience to the table, and who uses that insight to influence decisions and shape value.

About Us

Palaris is a global technical consulting firm supporting clients in the mining and metals sector with independent engineering, due diligence, and strategic technical advice. Our clients trust us to bring deep technical knowledge and commercial clarity—advice that is accurate, relevant, and grounded in real-world operational experience.

About the Opportunity

Palaris is looking for a full-time, remote Principal Process Engineer based within Vancouver, B.C. or Toronto, ON, working on a 9-day fortnight schedule with no reduction in full-time salary. Some travel (locally and internationally) is required on occasion.

In this high-impact consulting role, you will report to a senior leader and be accountable for delivering technically rigorous, commercially relevant advice to clients across global mining and metals projects. You will also play a key role in business development - shaping proposals, identifying opportunities, and helping build long-term client relationships.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Leading and contributing to technical due diligence, independent engineering reviews, and operational assessments
  2. Managing projects across multiple international jurisdictions with limited oversight
  3. Engaging directly with clients, investors, and executives to understand goals and convey insights
  4. Translating complex technical information into clear, actionable advice for non-technical audiences
  5. Shaping proposals and identifying value-add opportunities through a commercial lens
  6. Providing input across all stages of project development, from testwork to execution and operations
  7. Applying project management expertise to oversee designs, timelines, and deliverables
  8. Identifying material risks and opportunities and separating signal from noise
  9. Supporting business development initiatives and helping win new work
  10. Leveraging professional networks to build long-term client relationships
  11. Contributing to ESG and decarbonisation advisory projects as this area expands
About You

To qualify, you will need a degree in Metallurgy, Minerals Processing, or a similar field and strong technical experience in mineral processing, ideally in mining or project environments across a range of commodities. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in mineral processing or metallurgy will also be essential. You must also have full work rights in Canada, as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Additionally, the following skills and experience will be required:

  1. Exposure to the full project lifecycle, including geometallurgy, metallurgical testwork, process design, execution, commissioning, and operations
  2. Understanding of capital and operating cost estimates and their relevance to different stages of project design
  3. Experience managing and reviewing engineering designs and deliverables
  4. Familiarity with multiple commodities and the ability to apply learnings across different project contexts
  5. A well-established network within the mining and metals industry

As our ideal candidate, you are commercially minded, quick on your feet, and thrive in high-stakes client conversations. You communicate clearly and persuasively, even with non-technical audiences, and instinctively know what matters. You are proactive, self-directed, and collaborative - comfortable navigating complexity and influencing decisions without needing close supervision.

This is a role for a technically sharp, commercially astute engineer who builds trust with clients, adds value through insight, and delivers real-world impact.
