Elastic in Canada is seeking a Principal Software Developer to lead performance tuning of Elasticsearch. You will drive architectural and code-level optimizations, mentor engineers, and partner with distributed teams to improve scalability and reliability.

The role offers a base salary between CAD 154,000 and CAD 243,600, participation in the stock program, RRSP matching, health coverage, flexible locations, generous vacation, and volunteer time.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Java performance, JVM memory management, and concurrency models.
• Experience profiling distributed systems using flamegraphs, JMH, Rally.
• Hands-on optimization in large open-source or enterprise codebases.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted optimization and automation in benchmarking.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and production-level performance initiatives for Elasticsearch.
• Develop performance models and methodologies for distributed systems.
• Drive optimization strategies for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Profile and analyze bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
• Lead automation efforts for profiling, hypothesis testing, and benchmarking.
