Purpose:

To oversee the design, development, and implementation of material handling systems in mining, metal, and mineral (MMM) processing operations. This role involves leading an engineering team, optimizing bulk material handling processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Lead Engineer plays a critical role in project execution, vendor coordination, and technical decision-making. The candidate will be based in Oakville, Ontario, working under the supervision of the project manager and collaborating with the project team and customer.

Self-motivated individuals with a desire to solve complex engineering problems, demonstrate effective team leadership, and communication skills are ideally suited for this role.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the material handling engineering project team from concept to completion, providing guidance on equipment selection, system integration, and operational efficiency.
  2. Design and engineer material handling systems, including conveyors, feeders, stockpiles, and bulk storage solutions.
  3. Evaluate and select appropriate material handling equipment for mining, metal, and mineral processing operations.
  4. Ensure all designs meet industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
  5. Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  6. Contribute to studies and projects.
  7. Prepare technical specifications, data sheets, and vendor drawings and data requirements (VDDR) for mechanical equipment.
  8. Perform technical bid evaluations leading to equipment purchase recommendations.
  9. Perform complex engineering calculations related to material handling equipment and systems.
  10. Liaise with suppliers during equipment procurement.
  11. Familiar with applicable codes and standards, perform relevant calculations.
  12. Review shop drawings and attend inspections as required.
  13. Prepare project scope of work, planning, and support RFQs (Requests for Quotation).
  14. Identify and report changes to the study/project scope.
  15. Stay updated with the latest developments and innovations in mechanical engineering.
  16. Stamp project deliverables if required.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering tools.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, understanding engineering sequences, workflows, and design reviews with clients.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a solid background in Mining.
  • Registered with PEO as a Professional Engineer.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Candidate shall be present in the Worley Oakville office 4 days a week.
