Job description

Principal, Enterprise Architect (Retail Systems)

EPAM Systems is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect to join our growing team in Toronto. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in shaping technology strategies for industry-leading clients, ensuring alignment between business goals and cutting-edge technology solutions. We’re looking for someone who blends deep technical expertise with strong consultative capabilities, particularly in Retail Systems and Enterprise Architecture. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact digital transformation initiatives while working closely with EPAM's global leadership and top-tier clients across the region.

Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a thought leader in defining architectural vision and roadmaps for complex, enterprise-scale retail solutions
  2. Maintain a strong understanding of evolving retail industry trends, tools, and best practices
  3. Design and implement large-scale retail architectures using modern technology stacks and platforms
  4. Guide end-to-end product and pricing solutions, including Merchandising, PIM, MDM (e.g., Stibo, Informatica), and DAM systems
  5. Evaluate, customize, and implement commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) retail systems to meet business needs and integrate with existing infrastructure
  6. Develop comprehensive architecture documentation and ensure alignment with enterprise standards
  7. Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to define solution requirements, use cases, and future-state architectures
  8. Conduct architecture reviews, audits, and deliver actionable findings
  9. Lead solution implementation efforts from requirements gathering through to deployment and go-live
  10. Drive pre-sales initiatives: craft proposals, respond to RFPs, present architecture solutions, and facilitate client workshops
  11. Act as a trusted advisor to clients throughout the architecture lifecycle
  12. Commit to continuous learning and maintain expertise in emerging technologies and architectural methodologies
  13. Mentor and support the development of junior architects and consulting teams
Requirements
  1. 15+ years in IT architecture, including 5+ years in an enterprise/principal architect role
  2. Proven background in technology consulting or IT services, particularly within Retail or CPG sectors
  3. 10+ years of leadership experience managing teams in complex project environments
  4. Deep domain knowledge of big-box retail ecosystems including store operations, digital channels, warehousing, supply chain, and corporate systems
  5. Experience leading architectural efforts that ensure alignment with organizational goals
  6. Experience leading efforts to regulate the overall technology ecosystem to increase flexibility and optimize business value
  7. Demonstrated experience in designing and deploying retail systems: Point-of-Sale (POS), Merchandising & Assortment Planning, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Master Data Management (MDM), Product Information Management (PIM), Digital Asset Management (DAM), Product Content Management, Store infrastructure, and edge technologies
  8. Solid understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman)
  9. Ability to define and manage retail application architecture blueprints that span legacy and modern technologies
  10. Hands-on experience with enterprise COTS retail platforms such as Stibo, Manhattan Associates, Blue Yonder, or Salesforce Commerce Cloud
  11. Hands-on experience with ERP implementations in retail
  12. Expertise in retail data domains and modeling (e.g., product, pricing, promotion, inventory, store operations)
  13. Deep experience with full software development lifecycles, including Agile/SCRUM and RUP methodologies
  14. Data-driven decision-maker with the ability to bridge business objectives with technical solutions
