Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design and review of nuclear and conventional systems, and to oversee SSC design packages from concept to service. Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience; 10+ years in the nuclear industry.
• Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng), in good standing.
• Working knowledge of pressure boundary codes and standards (CSA N285.0, ASME Section III Div. 1, ASME B31.1).
• Experience interfacing with CNSC and TSSA; preparing correspondence and classifications.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Results-driven with strong interpersonal skills in a dynamic, project-delivery environment.

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position requires experienced individuals who are self-starter capable of working independently and leading/supervising junior engineers. The individuals will work in a fast-paced team environment performing engineering services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization.

Your role

• Prepare and review design basis documents for both nuclear and conventional systems of the nuclear power station e.g. design specification, over-pressure protection reports and design reports, Drawings, BOMs, SCL, etc.
• Oversee the preparation of Mechanical and Piping Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs) Design Packages from Conceptual Design to Available For Service (AFS) and Close Out.
• Train, mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
• Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress, performance and staffing needs.
• Directly interface with Customer’s engineering representatives.
• Ensure that applicable standards and regulatory requirements and met.

About you

Required qualifications:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience (minimum 10 years in the nuclear industry).
• Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, and member in good standing. o Working knowledge of pressure boundary codes and standards, including CSA N285.0, ASME Section III Division 1 and ASME B31.1.
• Experience in power plant equipment, including but not limited to equipment in the Nuclear Island, Turbine Island, Balance of Plant, Auxiliary Systems (HVAC, Compressed Air Systems, Water Systems, Chillers, etc.).
• Qualified Specialized Professional Engineer to ASME Section III, Div.1, Appendix XXIII or qualified for certification.
• Experience interfacing with CNSC and TSSA including preparing correspondence letters, TSSA registration and re-conciliation packages, code classifications and memos.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Results-driven individual with strong interpersonal skills that thrives in a dynamic, project-delivery environment.

Additional, preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5 standard is an asset.
• Working knowledge of major nuclear operator’s Engineering Change Control process.
• Presentation skills and public speaking abilities is an asset.
• Knowledge of seismic and environmental qualification methods and processes is an asset.
• Security Clearance is a condition of employment.
