George M. Murray Elementary School Lillooet, British Columbia

School District No. 74 (Gold Trail) is seeking an outstanding educational leader for the position of Principal at George M. Murray Elementary School in Lillooet, British Columbia. The school lies on the unceded traditional territory of the St'át'imc peoples. George M. Murray Elementary School (GMMES) is a vibrant Kindergarten to Grade 7 school community serving families from T'it'q'et, Xwisten, Xaxl'ip, Ts'kw'aylaxw, Sekw'el'was, and the District of Lillooet. 90% of its students have indigenous ancestry. GMMES' passionate staff work collaboratively with each other and the local communities to meet the learning needs of each of its approximately 90 students. Lillooet is an inviting community, and is within easy driving distance of Kamloops, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver.

The candidate we seek will have a professional profile that includes:

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering instructional excellence, and substantial experience in instructional leadership and supervision of learning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in school improvement, student achievement and staff development to support students and staff in reaching their full potential.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning and strong commitment to improving school success for Indigenous students, including by building positive relationships with parents, caregivers and families in the school and community.
  • Successful experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, truth and reconciliation and a safe and caring school culture as you implement the District's Strategic Plan and the school's Action Plan for Learning.
  • A strong working knowledge of assessment for, of and as learning, and experience using assessment data to drive accountability, inform decisions and improve equity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage student conduct and go beyond academics to support student belonging, well-being and voice.
  • Effective time and task management and well-developed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen, value input, communicate openly and transparently, problem solve and resolve conflict.
  • Experience leading and supporting experiential, on-the-land learning.
  • Experience gained through work in a variety of roles, schools and communities where your leadership practices and philosophy demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation for diversity.
  • Experience with non-educational responsibilities such as budgeting, procurement, student records maintenance, and scheduling.
  • BC Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Master's Degree in a related field, or working toward completion of.
