Job summary

Worley is recruiting a Lead Electrical Engineer for mining and metals projects based in Oakville, Ontario. The role requires delivering electrical engineering solutions and providing technical leadership across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup stages.

The candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and build strong client relationships while ensuring safety, quality and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • PEg designation or eligibility preferred.
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mining, minerals and metals or related industries.
  • Experience with HV, MV, LV systems and protection/control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver electrical engineering services for mining/metals projects, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Develop and oversee electrical deliverables including substations, switchgear, protective relays, diagrams and cable routing.
  • Provide technical leadership through all project phases: engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up.
  • Resolve complex technical challenges and propose practical engineering solutions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Assign work, review deliverables and mentor junior engineers.
  • Build trusted client relationships through proactive communication and value delivery.
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality, safety, schedule and budget targets.
  • Identify risks and manage scope changes to avoid project impacts.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in electrical engineering and mining operations.
  • Support proposals, studies and project planning as needed.

Purpose

We are currently recruiting for a Lead Electrical Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Oakville, Ontario. The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and delivering electrical engineering solutions for mining and metals projects. Success in this role requires strong electrical engineering expertise, sound judgment, collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities


  • Lead and deliver electrical engineering services for mining and metals projects, ensuring compliance with Worley, client, regulatory, and industry requirements.

  • Develop and oversee electrical engineering deliverables including HV, MV, and LV systems, substations, MCCs, protection systems, single line diagrams, schematics, cable routing, lighting, and grounding systems.

  • Provide technical leadership throughout engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.

  • Resolve complex technical challenges and provide practical engineering solutions that support project objectives.

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Assign work, provide technical guidance, review deliverables, and support the development of less experienced engineers.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients through proactive communication, responsiveness, and a commitment to delivering value.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, safety, schedule, and budget requirements.

  • Identify risks, manage scope changes, and proactively resolve issues before they impact project execution.

  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry developments, and best practices in electrical engineering and mining operations.

  • Support proposal development, technical studies, and project planning activities when required.


What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience


  • Experience delivering electrical engineering solutions within mining, minerals and metals, or related industrial environments.

  • Strong knowledge of HV, MV, and LV electrical systems, substations, protection and control systems, telemetry, teleprotection, SCADA, and power system studies.

  • Experience with surface and underground mining projects, including shaft sinking and subsurface utilities.

  • Proficiency in engineering calculations, specifications, procurement packages, contract documentation, and Canadian electrical codes and standards.

  • Experience using ETAP, SKM, Microsoft Office, and other relevant engineering design software.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and develop practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.

  • Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

  • A client-focused mindset with the ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining quality and safety standards.

  • A genuine interest in leading technical work, mentoring others, and contributing to successful project outcomes.

  • Motivation to continuously learn, embrace new technologies, and contribute to innovation and continuous improvement.

  • A track record of successfully delivering engineering scopes safely, on schedule, and within budget.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing project interfaces, and contributing to positive project and client outcomes.

  • Demonstrated achievements in improving project performance, mitigating risk, solving complex technical challenges, or driving operational improvements.

  • Typically, 10+ years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience within mining, minerals and metals, or related industrial sectors.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with a Canadian engineering regulatory body is preferred.

  • Relevant certifications, advanced training, or specialized experience in power systems, protection and control, substations, mining infrastructure, or related disciplines would be considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and application of industry best practices.

Required


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Applied Science, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $149,294 to $175,641 CAD.


Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
