Job description

Bluticis looking for a Principal Database Administrator with10+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration in complex production environments and5+ years in a leadership role, mentoring and leading other DBAs or database operations teams.

This candidate will serve as the senior technical expert and leader for the administration, performance, and security of the SQL Server environments. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of production databases. The Principal DBA will lead by example, lead the DBA team, drive best practices for database management and operations, and be responsible for the SQL Server platform roadmap.

This is a remote position to start with for 6-12 months. After the contract, if the position turnsout to be contract-to-hire, candidates will need to physically reside in OR, CA, or WA.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing support of secure, high-performance, and highly available SQL Server database environments.
  • Provide direction, mentorship, and oversight to the DBA team, ensuring best practices in database administration.
  • Architect, implement, and optimize SQL Server databases to meet the performance and reliability needs of the business.
  • SQL Expertise : Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies to enhance database performance.
  • Automation & Scripting : Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate database processes and deployments.
  • Lead efforts to optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource allocation.
  • Design and implement high-availability solutions, replication strategies, and disaster recovery plans for critical databases.
  • Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Establish and maintain database documentation, policies, and best practices for database administration.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders : Work closely with developers, data engineers, and business teams to align database solutions with organizational goals.

Qualifications :

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration in complex production environments.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role, mentoring and leading other DBAs or database operations teams.
  • Proven track record of leading critical database operations and supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (MCSE : Data Management & Analytics, AWS / Azure Database Certifications) are a plus
  • Knowledge of Snowflake administration, including data modeling, security, and workload management.
  • Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Skills :

  • Expert-level experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including performance tuning, query optimization, and resource management.
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server high-availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On, replication, mirroring, etc.).
  • Experience with database automation and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset.
