As a Principal Data Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and scaling data infrastructure that supports agentic experiences and advanced AI models. Reporting to the CPTO, you will drive engineering excellence, influence data strategy, and shape the future of commerce technology.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design & Build: Architect a modern, scalable, and cost-effective data platform using industry best practices.
• Lead with Vision: Guide data strategy and architecture in collaboration with the CPTO and engineering leaders.
• Accelerate Product Development: Work with Product Managers and SDEs to launch data-intensive features and products.
• Ensure Quality & Compliance: Promote data governance, security, and high availability across all data systems.
• Mentor & Influence: Set standards for technical excellence, share best practices, and foster continuous learning.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, preferably in high-growth or startup environments.
• Proven ability to build and scale data infrastructure supporting complex workloads, including OLAP and ML use cases.
• Expertise in modern data architectures such as ETL/ELT pipelines, Data Lakes, Warehouses, Catalogs, and Real-time Streaming.
• Cloud experience (AWS), including S3, Redshift, Glue, SageMaker, Bedrock. Bonus: Clickhouse, Airbyte, Rudderstack, Airflow, Metabase, Posthog.
• Track record of delivering production-grade data products impacting business outcomes.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to influence technical direction and align data initiatives with business goals.
• Strong collaboration skills with a bias for action, comfortable with architecture, coding, debugging, and advising leadership.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is CAD $150K to $200K, depending on experience and location.
