About ERM

ERM is seeking an experienced Principal Consultant, Senior Fisheries Biologist to oversee fisheries monitoring, environmental impact assessments, fish salvage, and baseline data collection across Canada, primarily in mining and energy sectors. The role involves providing senior technical review, oversight, and advice within a multidisciplinary team, supporting large-scale projects often in remote locations.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement fish and habitat field programs across Canada.
  • Support complex fish salvage and construction monitoring projects.
  • Provide expert advice to clients and staff.
  • Develop and monitor fisheries offsetting and compensation programs.
  • Manage and analyze biological data, contribute to databases.
  • Draft and review technical reports on monitoring, permitting, and impact assessments.
  • Ensure quality control and technical oversight of data collection and management.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and contribute to proposals.
  • Lead project phase management activities and coordinate with subcontractors and clients.
  • Engage with ERM’s international fisheries and aquatics communities.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology, Natural Resource Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Professional Biologist or similar certification.
  • 6+ years of environmental consulting experience (15+ preferred).
  • Field experience in fish habitat assessment, construction monitoring, and salvage.
  • Experience managing remote field programs and logistics.
  • Experience with mining, oil & gas, hydroelectric projects is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups, government, and public stakeholders.
  • Strong safety commitment and knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and mentor junior staff.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct remote fieldwork.
  • Excellent communication skills; valid driver’s license required.
Compensation & Benefits

Annual base pay: $114,581 – $140,000 CAD, based on experience and qualifications. Additional bonuses and comprehensive benefits package available.
