Qualifications

Thanks to an expanding project portfolio Mott MacDonald Canada has a new opportunity for an experienced Bridge Engineer, to join us as our Principal Bridge Engineer in our dynamic and growing team working on iconic infrastructural projects, locally, nationally, and globally.

Responsibilities
  1. Support our Canadian Bridge Leadership team through recruitment of additional staff, developing the existing team, managing utilization and supporting business / strategic planning initiatives.
  2. Advise on team structure, and actively mentor, coach, and plan for succession.
  3. Organize tasks to balance the needs of people, projects, and clients, and delegate tasks effectively when needed.
  4. Continue to develop a collaborative and respectful culture that encourages excellence, innovation, and learning.
  5. Demonstrate behaviors that promote our Purpose and align with our PRIDE values.
  6. Focus on health, safety, wellbeing, and career development of the Bridge Team.
  7. Win work – work with Account Leads to pursue opportunities, supporting Business Development as necessary.
  8. Deliver innovative design solutions for new bridge design and bridge rehabilitations using current design standards and guidelines by drawing on a range of structural skills.
  9. Provide leadership on matters of bridge engineering practice, including codes and standards, calculations, and construction drawings. Establish processes, procedures, and systems to enable the team’s efficient production of consistent and high-quality deliverables.
  10. Coordinate with other internal bridge and structural team leads in the business to share best practices, lessons learned, and to contribute to a strong technical excellence culture.
  11. Motivate colleagues to achieve their goals and objectives and provide constructive feedback to help them improve.
Candidate Specifications
  1. A strong academic background, with a bachelor’s level degree in Structural Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset).
  2. 15+ years of relevant industry / project experience on transportation related structural design (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc). Ability to take ownership and accountability for structural design work.
  3. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status with APEGA.
  4. Project delivery experience with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) and local municipalities.
  5. Strong technical skills associated with the design of bridges.
  6. Passion for the application of digital tools and technology to develop innovative design solutions.
  7. Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables.
  8. Gained project management skills and collaborative project delivery capabilities.
  9. Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients and nurture the development of junior staff.
  10. Experience delivering work outside of the transportation sectors (i.e. Energy) as well as prior experience in a team or resource leadership role would be considered an asset.
