About the role: Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our team works together to mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and management, and lead DPI's response to biosecurity emergency incidents, aligning with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management, and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Undertake compliance activities under Queensland legislation, including the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and the Biosecurity Act 2014.
  2. Possess thorough knowledge and skills relating to administration and compliance with relevant legislation and internal procedures (e.g., exercise of powers, auditing, investigation, conducting interviews, collecting evidence, preparing court briefs, use of BQ Case Management).
  3. Participate in disease surveillance and emergency response activities, which may include collection of samples from live and deceased animals.

All Biosecurity Queensland positions require a criminal history check.
