Our client, a multi-disciplinary firm in the GTA, is looking to add a Principal Architect to their team. This salary commensurate with experience and this position includes a competitive vacation and benefits package. This firm offers lots of opportunity for growth and many other perks!

Position summary :

As Principal, you will work closely with the Associate Director to drive the growth and development of this Toronto practice. You will lead business development, manage the studio and ensure the successful delivery of architectural projects, creating an inspiring and collaborative work environment.

Key areas of responsibility :

  • Business Development & Work-Winning
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities, strengthening the firm’s presence in Canada, particularly in commercial workplace, science and technology, education, residential and master planning.
  • Actively pursue and cultivate client relationships, ensuring the studio remains competitive across its key sectors.
  • Build a strong network of collaborators and industry partners including Canadian academics, engineers, developers and consultants.
  • Represent the firm at key conferences, workshops and industry events, securing opportunities to speak, critique and lecture at architectural schools.
  • Lead the bid strategy, working with the London-based bid team to identify and pursue strategic project bids.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships that enhance the firm’s project opportunities and reputation.
  • Support the Associate Director in managing and evolving the Toronto studio, ensuring operational efficiency and a dynamic, inclusive culture.
  • Oversee studio vision and development, contributing to long-term strategy, resource planning and operational improvements.
  • Act as a mentor and leader, fostering talent development and team cohesion.
  • Maintain an overview of studio finances, including fees, resourcing and project oversight.
  • Provide high-level design direction, ensuring projects align with the firm’s architectural ethos and commitment to sustainability.
  • Oversee multiple projects, ensuring quality, client satisfaction and efficient delivery.
  • Foster a creative and collaborative studio environment, encouraging innovation and excellence.

Communications & Visibility

  • Work with the London based communications team to shape the Toronto studio’s public presence, including PR and strategic outreach.
  • Contribute to research, articles and thought leadership to further establish the firm’s presence in Canada.

  • Maintain a strong connection with the firm’s UK offices, supporting knowledge exchange and shared initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership, summarizing business development, new leads and strategic growth.
  • Qualifications and Experience :

  • Licensed architect in Ontario (OAA) or eligible for registration
  • 15+ years of professional experience, including leadership roles
  • Proven ability to win and deliver projects across a range of sectors
  • Strong business acumen and experience building and maintaining client relationships
  • Exceptional communication, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Commitment to design excellence and sustainable architecture
