The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Description

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Elementary
Abilities / Competencies
  • Professional development in literacy education
  • Experience teaching grades Primary
  • Excellent communication (written, oral, electronic), problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem-solving, and program planning
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and application of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement throughout the lifespan
  • Willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on student needs
  • Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed
  • Maintain and promote confidentiality
  • Experience in planning and developing training related to students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' voices and contributions, remaining open to feedback
  • Willingness to obtain WHMIS and First Aid certifications if not already held
