Job summary

Government of Yukon is seeking a registered nurse for community health and primary care in Carcross, Yukon. The role offers part-time or full-time rotations, with a 6 weeks on/6 weeks off pattern for part-time and 75 hours bi-weekly for full-time. A signing bonus of $7,500 and housing assistance are available.

Travel between communities may be required. New hires must have RN registration, ACLS, and ED experience; primary health care in cross-cultural settings is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority.
  • Recent substantial experience working as a registered nurse in an emergency department.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • Certification or education in the expanded nursing role is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the delivery of community health and treatment services in an expanded role within a cross-cultural environment would be an asset.

Job Summary and Requirements

This competition is to fill two permanent part-time positions working a rotation of 6 weeks on and 6 weeks off or one full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

A fly-in/fly-out arrangement is available for part-time rotational positions, which includes transportation between the work location and the successful candidate's Canadian home province.

Community Nursing is committed to supporting our staff by providing a detailed initial orientation to the role and responsibilities and to the expanded scope of practice knowledge and skills requirements. This is followed by on-going seminars, skills education, workshops and educational support.

Your role

Working in an expanded scope of practice, you will assist individuals and families to achieve and maintain optimal health through the provision of primary care and emergency treatment services, health education/promotion activities, and disease prevention. This work occurs in a very dynamic and evolving environment that constantly strives to improve health services to the community.Reporting to the Primary Health Care Nurse-in-Charge, the incumbent provides both community health and primary health care services through an expanded nursing role. Duties include providing primary health services, emergency services, assisting with the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of public health/education programs and performing other related duties which contribute to the optimal functioning of the unit. Primary Health Care Nurses provide primary health care services in settings where there is limited access to physician and support services such as lab, x-ray and pharmacy. They must work effectively with both registered nurses and other health and social services practitioners in the provision of primary health care to the community.

  • Active current practicing Yukon RN registration in good standing
  • Current Heart & Stroke BLS, PALS &ACLS
  • An approvedtrauma certification such as TNCC or ITLSto be obtained within 6 months.
