DUTIES AND TASKS
Emergency and Response
- Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
- Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
- Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
- Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
- Collaborate with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
- Document all patient care, assessments, and skills within the patient care report in a timely manner.
- Be punctual and ready to respond at the start of your shift.
- Act professionally and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
- Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
Communication
- Create and maintain fully completed Electronic Patient Care Reports (ePCRs).
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with provincial and federal regulations (HIPA).
- Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
- Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to the General Manager of MHS - West or designate.
Education
- Develop and provide continuing education as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
- Maintain awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines and AHS medical control guidelines.
- Participate actively in the MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
- Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
Physical Ability
- Be in good physical health with no disabilities impairing duties as a Paramedic.
- Be capable of considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
- Be able to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
- Inform the director or team leader of injuries that may impair duties.
Public Relations
- Participate in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
- Maintain a professional appearance of the uniform and uphold hygienic and grooming standards.
Safety Hazards
- Exposure to violent behavior, traffic hazards, communicable diseases, invasive medical devices (e.g., IV needles), and extreme weather conditions.
- Work involves considerable hazards.
Qualifications & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Alberta Operators License class 1, 2, or 4.
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s.
License & Certification:
Certified in and maintains CPR certification.
Certified in and maintains AHS MCP certification.
Current ACP registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
FARE Certificate.
Salary in conjunction with the Collective Agreement with HSAA and Prairie EMS (MHS-West).
