Job Summary And Requirements

This posting is to fill a full-time term position working 75 hours biweekly. It will also be used to fill auxiliary on call positions.

It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This position will be based in Whitehorse but will be required to provide coverage for shortages in communities as neededtravel to communities (up to 70% travel)

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon with travel to Yukon communities

Who We Are

The Yukon's Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) team delivers a wide scope of pre-hospital care. We deliver medical interventions, treatments, and quality care in every corner of the Yukon. Leadership, dedication, and partnership guides our work.

Your role

The incumbent will employ professional Primary Care Life Support skills to provide pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment to the Yukon population. The PCP assesses patient condition in order to formulate a treatment plan and to initiate emergency interventions and non-emergency care to provide optimal patient wellbeing. This work is carried out in environments where there is limited medical support.

  • Completion of a hospital-based or other recognized paramedical or emergency medical technology program is required.
  • Recent experience providing pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical treatment and transportation.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

valid PCP licence from a paramedic governing body in Canada without conditions or restrictions valid ( COPR certificate will be considered as equivalent at time hire, but will have one year to obtain license in southern jurisdiction),TB screening; RCMP check with vulnerable sector check; and class 4 Yukon driver’s license (or equivalent)CPR-HCP, current valid certification.

Job Requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

shift work, including weekends and standby, travel to communities (up to 70% travel), wearing a uniform. physical effort, hazards, and discomfort as specified within the Job Description including exposure to high stress, sensitive situations, verbally and physically aggressive behaviour; working in awkward positions indoors and outdoors in all weather; lifting and transferring patients with assistance. ability to lift to 50 lbs., wearing a uniform, and maintaining all conditions of employment.
