Job summary

Gowling WLG seeks a Pricing & Legal Project Management Analyst to support pricing, rate renewals, fee proposals, budgets, and matter performance tracking using Excel, Power Pivot, Power BI, and Aderant. The role collaborates with Legal, Proposals, and Business Development to ensure pricing accuracy and alignment with firm guidelines.

This role may be performed remotely with travel to firm offices for meetings or training as needed, and offers a path to contribute to sophisticated matter pricing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, finance or accounting with 1–3 years of financial analysis; law firm experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking with data-driven insights.
  • Excel proficiency required; SQL, Power Pivot, Power BI experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical support to Pricing and LPM for rate approvals and renewals.
  • Deliver profitability analyses and budget tracking across matters.
  • Maintain pricing databases and prepare quarterly management reports.
  • Assist with RFPs, AFAs, and proposal content while ensuring pricing aligns with guidelines.

PROFILE

The Pricing & Legal Project Management Analyst provides analytical and administrative support to the Pricing and Legal Project Management team across special rate approvals, rate renewals, fee proposals, alternative fee arrangements, budgeting, and matter performance tracking. The role assists with maintaining pricing databases, preparing management reports, supporting RFP responses, conducting financial and profitability analysis, updating budgets and matter records, and developing reports using Excel, Power Pivot, Power BI, Aderant, and related tools. The analyst also works closely with Legal, Proposals, and Business Development teams to help ensure pricing information is accurate, properly documented, commercially reasonable, and aligned with firm guidelines.

This role may be performed on a fully remote basis, with travel to the applicable firm office as required for meetings, training, or other business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide analytical support to the Pricing and LPM team to assist with day-to-day special rate approvals
  • Support the client and matter rate renewal process through data-driven analysis.
  • Maintain a database of all existing approved pricing agreements and fee proposals, including special rates and other Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFA) structures. Prepare quarterly reports for management based on database information.
  • Assist with matter tagging of AFAs at matter opening to ensure proper tracking and reporting in Aderant.
  • Deliver financial and profitability analysis on pricing proposals, historical client portfolio activity, and current matter performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Legal and Proposals teams on Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for both new and existing clients. Assisting with pricing models, alternative fee arrangements, profitability analysis, and related proposal content, while helping ensure pricing is accurate, commercially reasonable, and aligned with firm guidelines.
  • Leverage Excel, Power Pivot, Power BI, and other tools to develop analytical reports that support matter management, alternative fee structures, and related initiatives.
  • Assist with budget updates in Aderant and Excel, and support the legal team in tracking budgets as needed — such as monitoring WIP against estimated budgets or capped fees.
  • Perform rate-related analysis to assist the legal team on rate negotiations aligned with overall pricing strategies, and undertake other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in math, finance or accounting, with 1-3 years of financial analysis experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is also acceptable. Experience in a law firm or professional services organization is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver practical, data-driven insights.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required; experience with Microsoft SQL, Power Pivot, Power BI is considered an asset.
  • Track record of producing quality analytical output with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong emphasis on delivering exceptional client service.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities; able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to efficiently multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Working towards a finance professional designation such as CPA or CFA is an asset.
  • Experience in project management is an asset.

The starting range for this role is $61,000 to $79,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
