Job Summary

Are you a motivated and creative Previs Artist interested in working on our first Animated Feature?

What You’ll Do
  1. Collaborate to establish lensing style, cinematic staging, and camera language as directed by the Head of Cinematography, Layout, or Previs Lead, aligning with the Director’s vision.
  2. Create 3D shots and sequences based on scripts, storyboards, and briefs.
  3. Set dress environments and locations for Layout and Animation, referring to Art Department designs.
  4. Create rigged assets and rough animated elements to guide framing and storytelling.
  5. Light and render sequences as required.
  6. Compile previs sequences with sound to visualize the story.
  7. Understand and deliver creative goals for sequences in a timely manner and to high standards.
  8. Provide technical setups of shots for downstream departments when possible.
  9. Mentor and support colleagues.
  10. Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and open-mindedness.
What You’ll Need
  1. 5+ years of experience in Previs and/or Layout on animated feature films.
  2. Skills in transforming 2D storyboards into 3D filmmaking.
  3. Examples of visual storytelling demonstrating composition, staging, and shot rhythm.
  4. Knowledge of real-world camera principles, lenses, editing, and film language.
  5. Strong skills in Blender and Maya.
  6. Understanding of basic character animation principles; ability to create supporting character animations is a plus.
  7. Understanding of editing and scene compositing, including sound integration.
  8. Proactive attitude with multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to develop cinematography for storytelling.
  10. Strong communication and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  11. Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills.

This role is based in Vancouver, BC, with a hybrid work model (minimum 3 days in-office).

Compensation ranges from $80k to $160k CAD, based on market factors, experience, and skills. Benefits include health plans, mental health support, retirement options, family benefits, paid leave, and more. For details, see our benefits information.
