Position Overview

We currently have 1 full-time position available at Canadian Forces Base Halifax. The Public Health Services Technologist (Preventative Medicine Technician) possesses specialized expertise in public health programs at CFB Halifax.

Responsibilities

The tasks for this role include:

  • Conduct public health inspections for DND and CAF facilities on and off Base, verifying compliance for food services, accommodations, potable and recreational water, etc. Facilities include daycares, pools, spas, cadet camps, armories, personal services, and recreational facilities. Travel (local and off base) may be required.
  • Investigate and report communicable diseases.
  • Provide food safety courses and health hazard briefings.
  • Conduct compliance inspections and sampling (water, food, surfaces).
  • Interpret and analyze sampling data.
  • Liaise with laboratories and regulatory agencies.
  • Recommend public health measures for workplace compliance.
  • Prepare and submit inspection reports within 15 days, including analysis, laws, sampling results, discrepancies, and recommendations.
  • Participate in briefings to senior management.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sampling equipment.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Work may involve exposure to noise, heat, cold, and slippery conditions; PPE will be provided.

Qualifications

All Public Health Services Technologists must have:

  • A Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) from CIPHI, with ongoing CIPHI membership.
  • A valid provincial driver’s license; use of POMV may be required.

Additional Requirements

You must be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
