Current Rate of Pay: Min $30.40- Max $31.02

Current Shifts:Primarily Days-(evening and weekend shifts as required)

Position Summary:

The Facilities Department ensures that the hospital’s equipment, spaces, structures, and infrastructure continue to support the hospitals mission of providing the highest possible quality care and experience for patients and their families.

The Preventive Maintenance Technician specializes in the upkeep and functionality of hospital beds, stretchers, wheeled equipment, and light carpentry tasks. This role ensures that essential equipment and basic structural elements are safe, operational, and ready to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on hospital beds, stretchers, and other wheeled equipment.
  • Address mechanical or operational issues, including adjustments, lubrication, and minor repairs to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Carry out light carpentry tasks, such as minor repairs to furniture, fixtures, or equipment requiring basic woodworking skills.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with hospital protocols and standards.
  • Collaborate with staff to prioritize and address urgent maintenance requests effectively and efficiently.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards to ensure the well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically adept, and skilled in basic carpentry. Their work ensures the reliability of critical hospital equipment and supports a safe environment for healthcare delivery.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Relevant certifications in maintenance or technical skills
  • Experience in a technical service position
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and reporting
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred
  • Knowledgeable about Building and Fire Codes, the provincial Ontario Health & Safety Act and various Acts and Codes such as WHMIS, EPA etc.
  • Proficiency in repairing and maintaining hospital beds, stretchers, and wheeled medical equipment
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical systems
  • Hands-on experience with light carpentry tasks, including repairs and assembly
  • Ability to conduct inspections, troubleshoot issues, and perform preventive maintenance tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools, equipment, and repair techniques
  • Understanding of safety protocols and compliance with healthcare industry standards
  • Documentation and reporting skills for maintenance logs and records
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities
  • Attention to detail to ensure proper functionality and safety of equipment
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare staff and provide clear updates
  • Time management and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills to work alongside other technicians and hospital personnel
  • Adaptability to handle various tasks and address unexpected issues
