The Prevention and Early Intervention Coordinator will lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community-based initiatives that focus on preventing gender-based violence (GBV), promoting healthy relationships, and supporting parents and caregivers in the early years. This role is part of an interdisciplinary team through a gender-based violence hub focused on prevention, support, and economic empowerment. This role will work closely with community partners, educators, service providers, and families to deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed programming aimed at strengthening family resilience and fostering safe, respectful relationships from early childhood onward.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-informed prevention and early intervention programs targeting GBV, early childhood parenting, and healthy relationship building;

· Coordinate community outreach and engagement activities that promote awareness and education around GBV and prevention / building strong protective factors for children, youth, and families;

· Develop and implement evidence-based curricula and workshop materials that are trauma-informed, tailored to the audience, and grounded in best practices;

· Works to integrate early prevention and intervention efforts into existing YWCA Hamilton programs and services to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to gender-based violence prevention

· Engages with children and youth who have experienced gender-based violence using trauma-informed, age-appropriate approaches that prioritize safety, emotional regulation, empowerment, and healing.

· Collects and analyzes statistical data related to gender-based violence prevention and early intervention initiatives, including program participation, referrals, and outcomes, to support evidence-informed practice and continuous program development.

· Support and train facilitators, educators, and/or peer mentors delivering programming;

· Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including schools, early years centers, health services, child welfare agencies, shelters, newcomer-serving organizations, social services, and youth agencies;

· Consult with community to ensure programs are relevant and responsive to community needs;

· Provide and / or coordinate education and training sessions to professionals and caregivers on topics including healthy child development, trauma-informed care, respectful relationships, and GBV prevention;

· Support the development of policies and practices that integrate GBV prevention and early intervention into YWCA Hamilton services;

· Works within YWCA Hamilton guidelines, procedures and standards, referring issues or problems to direct supervisor;

· Offers crisis intervention, supportive counselling, referrals and advocacy as needed;

· Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, employee and contract information;

· Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;

· Implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence;

· Provides program reports to Manager as required;

· Attends relevant networking events and representing the YWCA on community committees;

· Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;

· Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;

· Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· 37.5 hours / week;

· Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

· Completion of 2 years of college in social work or human services, or equivalent;

· 3 years’ experience working in social services, with violence against women services and / or parenting, early years, or youth services;

· Experience in program coordination and facilitation, with a focus on violence prevention, family support, or early years services;

· Strong knowledge of gender-based violence, early childhood development, trauma and attachment, and healthy relationship education;

· Skilled in facilitation, community development, and collaborative leadership;

· Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills;

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with a wide range of partners;

· Experience in trauma-informed practice;

· Excellent communication skills;

· Must be able to work from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective;

· Ability to work a schedule which includes days, afternoons, weekday and/or occasional weekends;

· Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willing to obtain at own cost;

· Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willing to obtain at own cost;

· Knowledge of community resources in the violence against women sector is an asset;

· Bilingual English/French or other languages is an asset.
