The Ministry of Highways, Provincial Operational Services Branch, is seeking an innovative, responsible and motivated Preventative Maintenance Specialist headquartered in any of the following locations: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, or Moose Jaw. You will collaborate with the Fleet Services Team to enhance public safety by strengthening preventative maintenance programs and increasing equipment operator awareness. This includes providing education on the regulatory and legal responsibilities involved in operating a commercial fleet, ensuring compliance and reducing risk across the Ministry’s operations.Reporting to the Fleet Asset Management Engineer you will bring strong networking and interpersonal skills. Core responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with section staff and provide training on the use, care, and regulatory requirements of new snowplow deployments;
  • Coordinate and deliver training to operators on pre-trip inspections, ensuring thorough and consistent checks are performed prior to equipment use;
  • Ensure accurate, organized storage of vehicle maintenance logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation, adhering to all required standards and regulations;
  • Maintain, order, and distribute compliance forms and documentation to support regulatory adherence;
  • Serve as the primary liaison with SGI to oversee and manage the Ministry’s Commercial Carrier Profile, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards;
  • Develop and refine the Ministry's existing policies and manuals on preventative maintenance to ensure greater effectiveness and alignment with current best practices; and
  • Review and approve contractor's equipment lists and corresponding rental rates to ensure accuracy and compliance.

To qualify for this position you will possess the following:

  • a class 1A or 3A driver’s license;
  • an understanding of the Ministry’s preventative maintenance principles; and
  • Ability to train and educate equipment operators on the safe operation of the Ministry’s tandem snowplows and other major equipment.

The knowledge and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through experience in fleet management, preventative maintenance, training and educating equipment operators, and ensuring compliance with commercial fleet regulations.

Travel required: Approximately 50% of the time within the province.
