Job summary

Wajax is seeking a preventative maintenance field technician to service material handling equipment in the field, including forklifts and order pickers. This role focuses on scheduled maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs to ensure safe operation and minimal downtime.

You will travel to customer sites, perform on-site maintenance, document findings, and communicate clear upkeep recommendations while upholding Wajax safety standards and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

• Mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical experience in field or industrial settings.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance or service work on equipment in field jobs.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites.
• Ability to work independently and manage time in the field.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Red Seal Automotive Service Technician certification or HE Technician apprenticeship (any level).

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on material handling equipment.
• Conduct detailed inspections for wear, safety concerns, and issues.

The Opportunity

Wajax is seeking a Preventative Maintenance Field Technician to support our Material Handling Equipment division. This role focuses on performing scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on customer equipment in the field, ensuring safe operation, reliability, and reduced downtime.

This is a customer‑facing, field‑based role ideal for a mechanically inclined technician who takes pride in proactive maintenance, safety, and high‑quality service.

The Role

Preventative Maintenance & Inspections

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, order pickers, and other powered/industrial equipment
• Conduct detailed inspections to identify wear, safety concerns, and potential mechanical or electrical issues
• Complete maintenance based on OEM standards, service intervals, and Wajax quality expectations
• Proactively identify and recommend corrective repairs to customers to prevent equipment failure

Field Service & Customer Support

• Travel to customer sites to perform on‑site maintenance and basic troubleshooting
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, required follow‑up work, and maintenance recommendations
• Represent Wajax professionally while building strong, trust‑based customer relationships
• Coordinate with Service Planners, Shop Technicians, and Field Service teams as needed

Documentation & Reporting

• Accurately complete service reports, inspection checklists, and maintenance documentation
• Record findings, parts used, and required follow‑up work in applicable systems
• Ensure all work complies with safety, regulatory, and company standards

Safety & Compliance

• Perform all work in compliance with Wajax safety policies and customer site requirements
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices
• Participate in ongoing safety training and certifications

The Candidate

Required

• Mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical experience (material handling, automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment considered)
• Experience performing preventative maintenance or service work in a field or industrial environment
• Strong mechanical aptitude with basic diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field‑based role
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Red Seal Automotive Service Technician certification or registration as a Heavy Equipment Technician apprentice (any level)

Preferred

• Experience with material handling equipment (forklifts, powered industrial trucks)
• Basic electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems knowledge
• Familiarity with OEM maintenance guidelines
• Experience using digital service documentation tools or CMMS systems
