The Canada Gairdner Awards are among the most prestigious biomedical science awards, celebrating the breakthroughs of the world’s most accomplished biomedical and global health researchers. Since 1957, 426 awards have been bestowed upon laureates from over 40 countries; 102 of these laureates have gone on to receive Nobel Prizes. The Gairdner’s mission is to celebrate, inform, and inspire scientific excellence around the globe. As the current President and Scientific Director’s ten-year term approaches its conclusion in 2026, the Board has launched a search for her successor. This is an opportunity to shape the future of an eminent organization, inspire the next generation of scientists, and elevate Canada’s position as an active participant and leader in the recognition and promotion of global scientific achievement.
An internationally respected research leader, the President and Scientific Director will demonstrate research creativity and curiosity, administrative acumen, and visionary, inclusive leadership. This leader’s extensive national and international network will be a critical advantage in safeguarding the excellence of adjudication panels and nominees. The President and Scientific Director will maintain productive relationships with the Board, adjudication committees, partners, governments, and other funders, and will find innovative ways to enhance the Gairdner’s stature as a trusted voice in the field of science. As the scientific and administrative leader of the organization, the President and Scientific Director will provide strategic leadership to the team and foster meaningful engagement with the broader community, upholding the Gairdner’s reputation for excellence and advancing its visibility and impact.
