The Canada Gairdner Awards are among the most prestigious biomedical science awards, recognizing groundbreaking contributions by the world’s leading biomedical and global health researchers. Since 1957, 426 awards have been given to laureates from over 40 countries, with 102 subsequently receiving Nobel Prizes. The Gairdner Foundation aims to celebrate, inform, and inspire scientific excellence globally.
As the current President and Scientific Director's ten-year term concludes in 2026, the Foundation is seeking a successor to lead the organization into its next chapter. This role offers an opportunity to influence the future of a renowned organization, inspire emerging scientists, and enhance Canada's leadership in global scientific recognition and promotion.
The ideal candidate is an internationally respected research leader with a track record of research innovation, administrative expertise, and visionary, inclusive leadership. A broad national and international network is essential for maintaining the integrity of adjudication panels and nominations. The President and Scientific Director will foster strong relationships with the Board, committees, partners, governments, and funders, and will work to elevate the Gairdner’s stature as a trusted voice in science. As the scientific and administrative head, they will provide strategic direction, engage with the community, and advance the Foundation’s reputation and impact.
