Job Description

PreCon’s Engineering Department is seeking a BIM Modeler & Drafter in Brampton, Ontario, eager to learn on the job. The candidate will develop extensive precast product knowledge and follow department procedures for preparing drawings, bills of material, and filing. This role requires high attention to detail to analyze schedules, specifications, architectural, structural, and steel fabricator drawings before converting this information into precast concrete fabrication drawings. The position also involves checking the work of other modelers before issuance for fabrication to our in-house manufacturing shop. The candidate should be comfortable working within tight time constraints and able to collaborate with PreCon Engineers, Project Managers, Salespeople, Estimators, Production Supervisors, and Field Erectors.

Responsibilities
  1. Analyze incoming orders and customer drawings and specifications.
  2. Prepare general layout and detail drawings using 3D Tekla Software.
  3. Perform quantity take-offs and prepare bills of materials for orders.
  4. Ensure manufacturing shop drawings provide clear and accurate details for fabrication.
  5. Review work of other modelers for accuracy.
  6. Respond to questions about drawings from other departments.
Technical Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Civil, Architectural, Structural, or Mechanical Technology is preferred; however, relevant precast concrete experience with less education will also be considered.
Business Requirements
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to customize 3D BIM and AutoCAD menus is an asset.
  • Proficiency with 3D BIM software and AutoCAD.
  • Skilled in reading construction drawings.
  • Ability to work steadily to ensure accuracy and quality with minimal errors.
Cultural Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills, responsibility, and effective communication.
  • Motivated to learn extensive precast product knowledge on the job.
