Job description

Why become a Pre-Board Screening Officer?

You will receive paid training at $23.91/hour, increasing to $26.91/hour following successful completion of training and full certification. You’ll also receive comprehensive benefits and a professional uniform.

What do Pre-Board Screening Officers do?

You will utilize your exceptional customer service skills to ensure passenger safety and create a positive travel experience by:

1. Efficiently screening passengers and baggage at airport security checkpoints;
2. Scanning and testing baggage for prohibited items using X-ray machines, metal detectors, and other technologies, along with physical search techniques;
3. Protecting restricted areas;
4. Managing conflicts;
5. Communicating clearly and effectively;
6. Upholding all regulations with vigilance.

What You Bring:

• Excellent customer service skills, preferably in a high-volume environment for at least one (1) year;
• Open availability to work various shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays;
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal; fluency in French is an asset;
• Ability to meet CATSA medical requirements;
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
• Current resident of Victoria or surrounding area;
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

This position is based at Victoria International Airport (YYJ).

Work Hours: Shifts may occur between 3:30 a.m. and midnight. Candidates with open availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts are preferred.

If successful, you will need to apply for a Transport Security Clearance (TSC), which involves an extensive background check. Once obtained, you will be eligible to begin the Screening Officer Foundations (SOF) course, which must be successfully completed before starting work as a Pre-Board Screening Officer.
