Our Global Consulting team is growing, and we are currently recruiting for a Practice Leader, Tailings & Geotechnical Engineering. This role is ideally based in our Burnaby office. However, for the right candidate, we are open to considering our Vancouver or Toronto offices.

We are looking for a Technical Expert in Tailings / Geotechnical Engineering to join our team and support the growth of our business in Canada. With experience in the mining sector, you bring scientific/technical mastery, sophisticated regulatory understanding, leadership skills, business acumen, and an entrepreneurial spirit along with a keen interest in growing and evolving the business, leading teams, and mentoring staff.

About The Role

1. Lead business development efforts for the tailings / geotechnical engineering team across Canada by identifying, pursuing, and developing new opportunities through networking, referrals, and thorough market research. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of potential opportunities.
2. Develop and implement strategic plans to capitalize on identified opportunities, ensuring the creation of sustainable, recurring, and strategic new business to support long-term growth objectives.
3. Manage and strengthen relationships with existing clients and network to maximize business opportunities and foster long-term partnerships.
4. Direct and perform highly complex or specialized aspects of the work while collaborating with project managers and overseeing projects involving multiple service areas and subcontracts as well as stakeholder, client, and schedule challenges.
5. Support hiring, integration, development, and mentoring of multidisciplinary mine waste staff.
6. Provide expert support and advice within and outside of the organization.
7. Mentor and develop staff, especially on geotechnical investigation, mining infrastructure design, foundations design, geotechnical analyses, seismic hazards studies, and preparation of construction drawings and specifications.

About You

1. Recognized as an expert in tailings / geotechnical engineering with a dedication to and passion for your discipline.
2. Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment.
3. Proven ability to leverage an established network of industry contacts to help attract new clients and support future business opportunities.
4. Proven track record of developing and executing strategic plans for customer and market segments, consistently exceeding business objectives.
5. Demonstrated experience working on domestic and global projects related to tailings management in the mining industry.
6. Professional designation (P.Eng. P.Geo) is a requirement.
7. Consulting acumen, including an entrepreneurial spirit, strong self-direction, and overarching belief in client satisfaction.
8. Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
9. Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to think critically and problem solve.
10. Experience in leading, mentoring, and training staff.
11. Proven verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in a second language including French or Spanish as an advantage.

Salary range: $180,000 - $250,000 annually
