Job description

Our Transmission & Distribution group is currently looking to add Powerline Technician (PLT) Apprentices to our growing team in North Battleford, SK.

Reporting to the Manager, Saskatchewan Operations, the PLT Apprentices will assist in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks and associated equipment, and perform other miscellaneous and other duties as required.

We are open to new Apprentices who are registered with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC), as well as Apprentices Level One through Four who are looking to continue their journey towards their Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with a Journeyman Powerline Technician and gain hours towards obtaining Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate
  • Work on steel tower transmission line on puller/tension sites
  • Climb and work from heights up to 200 feet and parallel to energized circuits
  • Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
  • Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
  • Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Foreman
  • May climb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles. Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals
  • Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices
  • May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service
  • Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled, or eligible to enroll, as a PLT apprentice with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide a clean Drivers Abstract
  • Willingness to work away from home and work a variety of shifts
  • Knowledge of trade safety practices, procedures and safety requirements

  • Class 1A Driver’s License
  • Level One, Two, Three or Four Powerline Technician Apprentice
