Job summary

Valard Construction in Ontario is seeking Powerline Technician Apprentices to join our unionized distribution team in the Aylmer area. You will work with Journeypersons to gain hours toward your certificate, climb to energized lines, install and inspect distribution facilities, and perform related duties.

The role requires local residence or reasonable commute, a valid driver's license, willingness to travel, and adherence to safety practices.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as Powerline Technician Apprentice with Ontario Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide Drivers Abstract.
• Willingness to work away from home and work a variety of shifts.
• Knowledge of trade safety practices, procedures and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work with a Journeyperson Powerline Technician and gain hours towards obtaining Journeyperson Certificate.
• Climb and work from heights and parallel to energized circuits.
• Maintain poles, towers and guy wires.
• Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networks.
• Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment.
• May climb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles.
• Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals.
• Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.
• May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
• Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.

Job description

Our Distribution group is currently seeking Powerline Technician Apprentices (PLT) to join our growing team, in the Aylmer, ON area.

Reporting to the Construction Foreman, PLT Apprentices work with Journeyperson Powerline Technicians to install and inspect electrical distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks, operate associated equipment, and perform other miscellaneous duties as required. We are open to new Apprentices who are registered with an applicable Provincial Apprenticeship program as well as Apprentices Level One through Four who are looking to continue their journey towards their Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.

Please Note: Candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance. These projects will be for unionized worksites. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW).

This project will be a unionized worksite. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW)

This position offers an hourly rate of $28.15 - $45.04 / hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
