Job description

Join to apply for the Power System Study Engineer role at DNV.

We are seeking a Power System Study Engineer to join our Energy Systems team, focusing on decarbonization and renewable energy in Power Grids. The role involves performing electrical system impact studies, transmission planning, and providing technical reports to stakeholders. The position is based in Toronto or Montreal with a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform electrical System Impact Studies including Steady State, Dynamic, and Transient Stability analyses in PSS/E.
  2. Conduct Short Circuit studies in ASPEN.
  3. Perform Voltage ride through (VRT) tests and model benchmarking.
  4. Develop transmission planning and compliance assessments for the bulk electric power system.
  5. Create and review technical reports and presentations for clients.
  6. Enhance simulation efficiency through automation scripting.
  7. Stay updated on relevant industry standards and policies.
  8. Contribute to research and development activities for new analytical tools.
  9. Maintain and develop customer relationships, providing technical advisory support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in transmission planning, generation, or large load interconnection analyses.
  • Hands-on experience with power system tools like PSS/E.
  • Strong understanding of electric power systems and renewable energy.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of ERCOT practices, experience with ASPEN or TARA, an active PE license, and scripting skills in Python.
