About IESO
The Independent Electricity System Operator, or IESO, is a government agency in Ontario responsible for managing the province’s electricity system. It ensures that supply and demand for electricity are balanced in real time and that the power grid operates reliably and efficiently. The IESO also runs Ontario’s electricity market, where electricity is bought and sold, and helps plan for the province’s long-term energy needs. This includes forecasting electricity demand, acquiring new energy resources, and integrating renewable energy and emerging technologies into the grid.
