Position Overview

Reporting to the Team Leader, Electrical & Instrumentation, and working two (2) weeks on, followed by two (2) weeks off at the Ekati mine; the Power Linesperson will be responsible for performing activities related to the electrical construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and/or testing on energized and de-energized distribution systems and/or transmission power lines. The Power Linesperson will work closely with the Electrical Services Team Leader and Planner.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

1. Perform activities related to the electrical construction, maintenance, repair or testing on energized and de-energized distribution and/or transmission power lines, as required, up to system voltage limits;
2. Install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain electrical distribution systems including overhead and underground power lines and cables, transformers and other associated equipment;
3. Safely operate heavy duty utility equipment including bucket trucks, and related equipment, as required;
4. Recognize, assess and control potentially hazardous situations in the work environment;
5. Function effectively as an integral part of a work group;
6. Work safely in all conditions;
7. Alterations and housekeeping of 69KV substations;
8. Advise groups walking under energized highline of hazards and safe practices;
9. Remain in a call-out ready status in the event of a highline failure after normal work hours;
10. Inspections of tooling and high voltage PPE to ensure good operating condition;
11. Complete a daily report of activities and conditions and submit to Electrical Team leader.

Education/Experience

1. Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Power Linesperson Certificate, or equivalent;
2. Journeyperson Electrical certification would be an asset;
3. Must possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices;
4. Experience working around substation equipment and maintaining and troubleshooting highline systems and equipment;
5. Proficient in general computer skills including Microsoft Office;
6. PSE Certification an asset;
7. Previous experience with SAP considered an asset;
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
9. Have the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment;
10. Work within a strong safety-oriented culture, while maintaining a focus on safety standards, policies and procedures. Willing and able to participate and lead safety meetings.

Additional Information

Burgundy Diamond Mines provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
