Job description

Position Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Reporting and Responsibilities

Reports to the Chief Engineer or designate. Operates, maintains, and repairs site Power Plant and related equipment across the Facility or other SI VIHA facilities as assigned. Duties include operating boilers, generators, heating, air conditioning, exhaust systems, and associated equipment. Monitors building alarms and adjusts systems (temperatures, pressures, flows) via the site Building Automation System (BAS) to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment. Performs trades duties at a journeyman level in areas such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry, complying with applicable codes and regulations.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC.
  • Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
