Job summary

Symbiotic Digital, a division of Symbiotic Group, is seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Specialist to lead data architecture and Power BI development for enterprise analytics. The role blends architectural work with hands-on BI delivery in a Toronto onsite setting.

You will design semantic models, implement security (RLS), and optimize performance while guiding BI initiatives and mentoring developers. Strong stakeholder collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years BI and data analytics experience.
• 5+ years Power BI development experience.
• Expert-level knowledge of DAX, Power Query, and data modeling.
• Advanced SQL and data warehouse development experience.
• Experience designing enterprise semantic models and reporting architectures.
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
• Experience mentoring developers and leading BI initiatives.
• 7+ years of data architecture experience.
• Expert knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schemas, and enterprise datawarehouse design.
• Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse, and SQL Server.
• Experience implementing data governance, security, and performance optimization strategies.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable data architecture solutions.

Responsibilities

• Data Architecture (Approximately 40%): Create Data Flow Diagrams; Design conceptual, logical, physical models; Develop Databricks Lakehouse architecture; Design Power BI semantic models; Create role models and security frameworks including RLS; Develop data governance frameworks; Create performance and capacity plans; Design environments and CI/CD pipelines; Define non-functional requirements; Prepare architecture review packages.
• Power BI Development (Approximately 60%): Design and develop Power BI semantic models; Connect and integrate Databricks data sources; Develop DAX measures and KPI calculations; Build dashboards and reports; Configure security models and RLS; Optimize report and query performance; Support testing, deployment, implementation; Prepare technical docs and transfer knowledge.
